Artist - Archnemesis
Album - Diamonds and Glass (EP)
Year - 2010
Genre(s) - Electronic/Experimental/Hip-Hop

First off, Happy Halloween everyone! I wanted to post something festive for todays holiday, but there is nothing worthy in my library, oh well. Instead I bring you Archnemesis, a rather interesting experimental electronic group who formed very recently. This is their first EP that released about a month ago , and its fucking sick. Check it out!

Strand of Oaks - Pope Killdragon

Artist - Strand of Oaks
Album - Pope Killdragon
Year - 2010
Genre(s) - Folk, Singer/Songwriter

Strand of Oaks is a project from musician Timothy Showalter. The majority of this album consists of acoustic folk songs, but there are a couple upbeat "rocking" songs too that sound influenced by Neil Young to me. Overall I was impressed with this album upon first listen, and not to mention the album art is pretty sick. If you give this one a listen, let me know what you think.

Ahab - The Call Of The Wretched Sea

Artist: Ahab
Album: The Call Of The Wretched Sea
Year: 2006
Genre(s): Doom, funeral doom, post-metal

German funeral doom inspired by Moby Dick. Does it get any more intense? But seriously, for what seems like a gimmicky concept, these guys are serious about what they do... the music is excellent.

I Just heard this band a couple of days ago while playing their song Something Bigger, Somthing Brighter, which is featured Rock Band 3. I grabbed this album where the song originated from, and enjoyed almost every song on it. Check it out.

Vladee Divacc - Hoop Dreamz EP

Artist: Vladee Divacc
Album: Hoop Dreamz EP
Year: 2010
Genre(s): Ambient, drone, experimental

Considered "dunkcore" and themed around basketball (specifically, the Phoenix Suns, I think, though I don't know much about basketball), this is actually a really cool EP that I just got. Really trippy, cool atmospheres... inspires me to check out more basketball. Why can't other sports inspire cool drone projects?

The Residents - Diskomo

Artist: The Residents
Album: Diskomo
Year: 1980
Genre(s): Avant-garde, experimental

Diskomo was an attempt for the Residents to take elements of 1979's Eskimo and put them in a catchier, dancier, more "disco" fashion. The result isn't disco at all. Moreover, this is the Residents at some of their creepiest and weirdest. The snarling vocals and military march of the live rendition of Diskomo is my favorite part of this whole thing.

Thurston Moore - Trees Outside The Academy

Artist: Thurston Moore
Album: Trees Outside The Academy
Year: 2007
Genre(s): Alternative rock, experimental

A lot of Thurston Moore's stuff outside Sonic Youth is noise, but this isn't. It's a little more conventional, but still surprising at times, and mostly just based on great songwriting from one of the most influential guitarists around right now.

Banner and Uploading Problems.

Hey everyone hope your enjoying all the killer music DW has been posting. I know I haven't posted for a while now, but its because I'm having problems with winrar. Hopefully I will have this problem fixed soon, I have several albums I really want to put up ASAP.

Also I think a banner at the top of the blog would look good, so in the time I have not been posting I have been trying to create something kick ass for that. I have 3 ideas I have been working on, and I will soon have some final versions to post and share. If anyone out there is good with graphic design and has a good idea for a banner, go ahead and make something and share it with us! Post it in the comments or even our last.fm page.

Lastly, Help spread the word about The Big Dipster! Tell your friends, your mom, teachers, anyone. A wide variety of music is posted to appeal to everyone, so if you help us get some more readers it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for reading: KB

EDIT: Found a way around the .rar problem. I'll be posting new music soon.

Ascend - Ample Fire Within

Artist: Ascend
Album: Ample Fire Within
Year: 2008
Genre(s): Drone, metal, experimental

Ascend is a collaborative project between Greg Anderson (Sunn O))), Goatsnake) and Gentry Densley (Eagle Twin, Iceburn). Cool, weird drone here. If you're expecting the typical VRUMMMMMMMMM drone well there's plenty of that, but these guys change it up a lot and make it really interesting. Great album.

Bohren & Der Club Of Gore - Black Earth

Artist: Bohren & Der Club Of Gore
Album: Black Earth
Year: 2002
Genre(s): Jazz, dark jazz, ambient

Bohren & Der Club Of Gore is one of my favorite recent jazz projects. It sounds a lot like Angelo Badalamenti, who scored a lot of music for David Lynch's films. This is, in my opinion, their best album. It's very slow, very atmospheric, very dark and minimalistic... not necessarily what you'd expect out of a jazz record, but a wonderful and satisfying listen nonetheless.

Ocean - Here Where Nothing Grows

Artist: Ocean
Album: Here Where Nothing Grows
Year: 2005
Genre(s): Doom, drone, minimalist

Not to be confused with mathcore/progressive metal band The Ocean...

In three tracks branching over an hour, Ocean has set forth some of the heaviest, most dismal pieces of music perhaps ever recorded in the metal genre. This music is bleak. If you're easily depressed you might not want to listen to this, but for the rest of us, this is an amazing album. These guys are easily my favorite of the "as-slow-and-heavy-as-possible" scene evolving right now.

Album: Crytograms
Year: 2007

Deerhunter has a constantly throbbing trippy sound to them. Though I call it "noise rock" under genres, it's not at all in an abrasive or intense sense; I'd compare this more to an almost Animal Collective style noise rock (which they kinda are, if you think about it).
