The Tuss - Rushup Edge

Artist: The Tuss
Album: Rushup Edge
Year: 2007
Genre(s): Electronic, IDM, experimental

It's speculative as to whether this is a Richard D. James project (probably not, but people like their conspiracies), but either way it's really quality stuff and sounds great. A lot like Aphex Twin, even if it isn't him.

Coliseum - House With A Curse

Artist: Coliseum
Album: House With A Curse
Year: 2010
Genre(s): Hardcore, crust punk, metal

Coliseum's most recent release, House With A Curse, is a little less intense and in-your-face than previous Coliseum records, but don't get the wrong impression because it isn't mellow at all. It sounds like they've been listening to a lot of Kylesa, to me. Which is not a bad thing in my book, but it depends what you're into.

Yakuza - Of Seismic Consequence

Artist: Yakuza
Album: Of Seismic Consequence
Year: 2010
Genre(s): Progressive metal, experimental

One of the most unique bands in the Chicago scene and in underground metal in general right now is Yakuza. Their last album (by last I mean most recent and possibly final, as the band has talked about calling it quits lately) was an absolutely brilliant triumph of everything they had done well with each previous release. Definitely one of the best albums to come out last year (which reminds me... I should put up a top ten list or something on here). Anyway, check it out.

Earth - Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1

Artist: Earth
Album: Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1
Year: 2011
Genre(s): Drone, western, post-rock

Earth's new album is a lot like all the rest of what they've been doing recently, but that isn't a bad thing... it's just a bit more sprawled out, jammy, and experimental this time. Really fucking good.

If you're looking for even more new music, one of our friends is starting a blog of his own called Music Bay, which you can check out here. Just a few albums up so far but also great stuff so far. Lasse Marhaug - The Sky Above, The Bud Below

Artist: Lasse Marhaug
Album: The Sky Above, The Bud Below
Year: 2010
Genre(s): Noise

First post of 2011! Cheers. Anyway, a quality noise blog I frequent called the static fanatic just posted this the other day and I just listened to it. Now this was honestly my introduction to Lasse Marhaug (I know he's a fairly well-known name in noise, but still, there are a lot of those), and I really enjoyed it. This is a somewhat short release, just a C-20 with two ten-minute-ish tracks. Definitely some interesting noise, though. I would recommend the blog I found this at to any fans of noise as well as this release.

So where should I go next with Lasse Marhaug? If you know his work, help me out.
