Boris With Merzbow - Klatter

Artist: Boris With Merzbow
Album: Klatter
Year: 2011
Genre(s): Stoner metal, psychedelic, noise rock

The new collaboration between Boris and Merzbow, Klatter, is a reinterpretation of three songs from Boris's Akuma No Uta, an original, and a cover. This is mostly Boris; it feels like Merzbow hardly does anything on it. Still good, though. Expect more Boris in the near future. Three new Boris full-lengths are on the way within the next couple months (New Album, Attention Please, and Heavy Rocks, which is not to be confused with their previous release of the same name; it is not a reissue but an entirely new album using the same title). Anyway, to give credit to the source, I had found this on Angrychairs, another good blog you should probably check from time to time.

The Residents - God In Three Persons and Instrumental Excerpts From God In Three Persons

Another weird Residents album, this one about a character, Mr. X, and two conjoined twins.

Artist: The Residents
Album: Instrumental Excerpts From God In Three Persons
Year: 1988
Genre(s): Avant-garde

I wasn't even aware this existed until today. I stopped in a record shop, and, thinking I had found God In Three Persons, grabbed it. I realized instead it was this strange instrumental version. Not particularly exciting compared to the original album, as it is not too different aside from being instrumental. Still, a sort of rare obscure release that seems like the sort of thing we should post here.

Daughters - Hell Songs

Artist: Daughters
Album: Hell Songs
Year: 2006
Genre(s): Mathcore, noisecore

Daughters underwent a bit of an evolution with Hell Songs- in general, the songs are a bit longer, a bit more structured, and the vocals are no longer screaming but now more of a howl reminiscent of David Yow. Really wonderful album. This is probably their best release, in my opinion.

The Cherry Point - Virgin Witch

Artist: The Cherry Point
Album: Virgin Witch

This is more dynamic than most Cherry Point releases, so a bit different from the conventional HNW approach. Still definitely a wall, just not quite as bleak and unchanging as most of their stuff.

Xanopticon - Liminal Space

Artist: Xanopticon
Album: Liminal Space
Year: 2003
Genre(s): Breakcore, IDM, experimental

Really atmospheric and strange breakcore. It's chaotic and intense, yes, but there's a lot more to it than making a lot of fucking noise, a lot more subtlety, I suppose. It's hard to explain, so you should check it out yourself.

For a duo comprising a bassist and a drummer/vocalist, DFA1979 sure do make a hell of a lot of noise. Such a great album. If you haven't heard this I'm not sure what went wrong. One of the most important underground albums of the last decade.
