First Napalm Death album and a prime example of incredible early grindcore, Scum is THE Napalm Death album to have if you're into them and all. Their other stuff is good, but this is incredible.

Yakuza - Of Seismic Consequence

Artist: Yakuza
Album: Of Seismic Consequence
Year: 2010
Genre(s): Progressive metal, experimental

One of the most unique bands in the Chicago scene and in underground metal in general right now is Yakuza. Their last album (by last I mean most recent and possibly final, as the band has talked about calling it quits lately) was an absolutely brilliant triumph of everything they had done well with each previous release. Definitely one of the best albums to come out last year (which reminds me... I should put up a top ten list or something on here). Anyway, check it out.

Renaldo And The Loaf - The Elbow Is Taboo

Artist: Renaldo And The Loaf
Album: The Elbow Is Taboo

Another totally bizarre but totally awesome Renaldo And The Loaf album. This was their last album. Worth it for Hambu Hodo alone, but there are a lot of great tracks on here...

Earth - Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1

Artist: Earth
Album: Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1
Year: 2011
Genre(s): Drone, western, post-rock

Earth's new album is a lot like all the rest of what they've been doing recently, but that isn't a bad thing... it's just a bit more sprawled out, jammy, and experimental this time. Really fucking good.

Music Bay

If you're looking for even more new music, one of our friends is starting a blog of his own called Music Bay, which you can check out here. Just a few albums up so far but also great stuff so far. I'm expecting good things out of it, so you should check it out and support it if you're feeling into it.

Lasse Marhaug - The Sky Above, The Bud Below

Artist: Lasse Marhaug
Album: The Sky Above, The Bud Below
Year: 2010
Genre(s): Noise

First post of 2011! Cheers. Anyway, a quality noise blog I frequent called the static fanatic just posted this the other day and I just listened to it. Now this was honestly my introduction to Lasse Marhaug (I know he's a fairly well-known name in noise, but still, there are a lot of those), and I really enjoyed it. This is a somewhat short release, just a C-20 with two ten-minute-ish tracks. Definitely some interesting noise, though. I would recommend the blog I found this at to any fans of noise as well as this release.

So where should I go next with Lasse Marhaug? If you know his work, help me out.

Circle Of Animals - Destroy The Light

Artist: Circle Of Animals
Album: Destroy The Light
Year: 2010
Genre(s): Industrial, metal

Circle Of Animals is Sanford Parker (Minsk, Nachtmystium, High Confessions) and Bruce Lamont (Yakuza) with various guests such as the drummers from Cephalic Carnage, Sonic Youth, Tortoise, and more. This album sounds to me like an attempt to return to the Wax Trax! industrial sound from back in the day, but is by no means merely nostalgic- it certainly shines a new light and puts its own original spin on industrial metal. I got this one for Christmas and had never heard of it before and was extremely pleasantly surprised. Highly, highly recommended.

By the way...

Sorry I haven't been posting much. I'm on break from school which means I have a much slower Internet connection at the moment and it's kind of impractical to contribute right now. Nonetheless, here's at least one album since I haven't put any up in awhile. In mid-January I should be speeding up my posting to a regular pace again.
